KATE MORAN | Instructor in Training

Several years ago, I tried yoga at my gym but the relaxing nature of the classes didn’t match my frenetic pace or desire to have a “real” athletic work-out.

However, shortly after the birth of my second child, I convinced my friend to join me for an eight-week yoga course. We lived in Dublin, Ireland and it was winter - dark, cold and wet. We eagerly escaped our houses on Tuesday evenings and left our partners to deal with the madness of the kids’ bedtime routines and soaked in a full hour devoted to (gasp!) ourselves. I loved it and soon, my yoga practice evolved from a once-a-week lark to an important part of my daily routine. (Yes, a yoga practice can be as simple as 8 deep inhalations on a particularly time-pressed day.)

Yoga energizes my body after a sleep-deprived night (or year!), brings into focus my priorities, makes me happy and calm - and let’s face it - makes me really bendy and is a killer workout.

My yoga style is a hybrid; most influenced by Vinyasa and Ashtanga, and my students can expect to sweat, work and laugh through creative sequences and deep core work.

I will complete my 200-hour Teacher Training at South Boston Yoga under the tutelage of David Vendetti and Todd Skoglund in March 2011 and credit my Dublin-based teacher Nikki Cousins with helping my love of yoga take root. If you ever get a chance to take a class with any of these guys, do it!
