What should I bring+wear?
Check out "What to Bring" for more information.
Is it ok if I’m a little late?
Yes. Although we prefer if you show up 5-10 minutes early for class to ensure an efficient sign in, we understand that life gets in the way of yoga at times. Please feel free to arrive a few minutes late and settle into class. Please be respectful if there is a centering or meditation at the beginning of class and wait quietly outside of the door until that is over. Make sure that you sign in and register after class or preregister online ahead of time.
How much are classes?
See our "Rates and Policies" for up to date pricing information.
I’m pregnant. Is it ok to come to a “regular class”?
If you are new to yoga, we suggest that you check out one of our Relax and Restore classes. If you have a regular practice, you are more than welcome to modify in one of our beginner or flow-based classes to fit your needs. We encourage all of our students to honor their bodies and work at their own pace in the class, and this is especially true for a pregnant woman. If you would like to practice in a regular class but do not know how to modify, you can set up a private session with one of our knowledgeable instructors. Please make sure that the teacher is aware of your pregnancy and you are cleared to practice by your doctor.
So what is Barre, anyway?
Barre is a unique combination of pilates, yoga, and ballet inspired movements that help build strength and flexibility, making it a great compliment to yoga! With a strong focus on alignment and controlled low-impact movements, with light weights, resistance bands, and workout balls, you are able to tone muscles while reducing pressure on joints. Barre classes maintain core activation and stabilization throughout which can help improve your posture and support everyday movements.
Why is it called Treetop Yoga Studio?
When Treetop opened its doors in 2008, we were in a small room in the penthouse of the Para Research Building on Eastern Ave. Since the room was on the top floor, it was called the “Treetop” room and it had views overlooking treetops down to the ocean.
Do you offer discounts for seniors or students?
Yes! See our "Rates and Polices" for details.
What are the temperature of your classes?
Our flow-based classes are taught in a warm room heated anywhere from 75- low 80's, and our Beginner Basics and Relax & Restore classes are about 75 degrees.
I am really inflexible. I can’t even touch my toes. Can I do yoga?
Everyone is flexible enough to do yoga. You just need to show up and be willing to meet your body and mind where it is. Yes, we do yoga to gain physical flexibility and strength to keep our bodies safe, supple and healthy, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. We practice yoga to calm our nervous system, to learn to control our breath, to learn about ourselves and our reactions, to connect with our most authentic self, quiet our minds, and so much more. Also, everyone’s bodies are different. You might never be able to touch your toes or do certain poses. It might simply mean that your bones are shaped differently than the person next to you. Practicing yoga is being okay with that too.
What’s up with all the OM-ing?
Most importantly, please do not feel like you have to do anything that you are not comfortable doing. You will still receive the benefits of the yoga practice without chanting. OM or AUM is referred to in yogic and hindu texts as the primordial sound or the sound from which every sound was created. The 4 sounds in the word or mantra OM (ahh, ohh, mmm and the silence that follows) represent individual states of consciouness-awake, dream sleep, deep sleep and a state that trandscends all of these states. It is said that chanting OM helps to connect you to your higher self and creates a sense of peace and well being in and around you. Maybe give it a try sometime!
Will I get a good workout taking a yoga class?
Depends on the class! There are classes we offer that can burn up to 600+ calories per hour and there are classes where you lie around, stretch, breath and relax. It depends on what you are looking for in your practice. Generally speaking, expect to get a “workout” in Vinyasa Flow class. For our class descriptions, click here.
Do you have a shower?
Yes. Our studio has two showers for you to use. Please bring your own towel and bath products.
How often does the schedule change?
Our schedule stays pretty consistent, but we do make minor changes seasonally. Check out our most up to date schedule on our website, and join our mailing list to get weekly and monthly studio news. Click Here to Join Our Mailing List
